Milk doesn’t stretch beyond the usual boundaries of a biopic of this sort, but the performances, design elements and insightful approach to capturing the building of a political movement combine to make this a potent winner. Sean Penn deservingly took home an Oscar for Best Actor, while the supporting cast is loaded with varied, well drawn characters.
